For more than fifty years, Father Jimmy Tompkins stirred up the people of Nova Scotia, pushing and prodding and cajoling them to make a better life for themselves. Through his prompting, study clubs, co-operatives and credits unions sprang up across the province. Everywhere a new enthusiasm called the Antigonish Movement promised a future in which everyone could participate. It was active and pragmatic and democratic in spirit: education and cooperation were its tools. Father Jimmy advocated the revolutionary doctrine that ordinary people, empowered with ideas, could change everything...

Thus begins Father Jimmy's Heirs: A CED Album. But this film isn't about the past; it's a 14-minute overview of the movement that's sweeping Nova Scotia today. Father Jimmy's legacy lives on in a tradition of hard work, cooperation and determination. It's an old concept with a new name; C-E-D: community economic development.
